According to the Manhattan-based vein center, ultrasound is essential in diagnosis and treatment of venous disorders, including such serious conditions as deep vein thrombosis.
The center encourages the public to consider undergoing an ultrasound test to screen for potential circulation issues.
“Any of tests utilizing ultrasound, also called “sonography”, “duplex” or “Doppler” studies, are uniformly safe, quick, absolutely painless, non-invasive methods providing immediately conclusive and final results,” explains Dr. Lev Khitin, the leading vein doctor at the New York Vein Treatment Center. “Vascular ultrasound is also useful for detecting venous disorders before they cause clinical symptoms, in other words, before a person feels or sees that something is wrong. One of such conditions is deep vein thrombosis, during which blood clots are formed in the deep leg veins. These clots can be thrown into our systemic circulation, leading to serious, sometimes fatal, complications.” Dr. Khitin also points out that ultrasound is often utilized during vein disease treatments as well.
